(Corpus Christi, TX) New this year as part of their annual Golf Classic, Driscoll Children’s Hospital will host Singer Songwriter Showcase 2006, a unique and intimate musical event. The showcase will take place on Thursday, October 12, 2006 at the Corpus Christi County Club and feature nationally known singer songwriters Aaron Barker, Paul Overstreet, and Allen Shamblin (bios below). Doors open at 7:30 p.m. and the concert starts at 8 p.m.

In an intimate setting, the three talented singer songwriters will hit the stage simultaneously to take part in an old fashioned “picking party” where they will tell a story in addition to singing their well-known hits. They will offer background as to where they were when they wrote the song, why they wrote it, and what inspired them. Much more personal than a normal concert, the singer songwriters may even take requests from the audience.

Aaron Barker
Aaron Barker’s success as a singer songwriter has been as strong as his native Texas roots. With this has come inspiration that has enabled him to bring music to patients during medical treatments and raise money while gathering life long experiences along the way. His hit single “Love Without End, Amen” was recorded by George Strait stayed at #1 in Billboard Magazine for 5 straight weeks.

Paul Overstreet
Paul Overstreet’s writing has included such singers as Kenny Chesney, Alison Krauss, and Randy Travis to name a few. Overstreet has written and co-written 27 top ten songs such as “When You Say Nothing At All” and “Love Can Build a Bridge”. His hit song “Some Beach” has recently hit the top of the billboard charts.

Allen Shamblin
Allen Shamblin has written over 700 songs with more than 100 of those being recorded by not only a variety of artists but genres as well. Inspired by such greats as Kris Kristofferson and Rodney Crowell his blend of story telling combined with vivid detail and honestly seem to fit everyone’s niche. Some of his songs have included “Where the Blacktop Ends” sung by Clay Walker and “Life’s a Dance” performed by John Michael Montgomery.

Funds raised from the event will benefit Driscoll Children’s Hospital and its services, programs and equipment. Both events will ensure that funds remain available for the purchase of pediatric equipment and continued support for the programs that help to meet the diverse health care needs of the children of South Texas.

Singer Songwriter Showcase 2006 is sponsored by Driscoll Children’s Hospital Golf Classic along with McKesson and American Bank. Cardinal Health, Alaris Products is an additional contributor to this event.
