MARK BIELEFELD, M.D.,
NAMED DRISCOLL CHIEF OF STAFF 2007
(Corpus Christi, TX) Driscoll Children's Hospital is
pleased to announce cardiothoracic surgeon Mark
Bielefeld, M.D. has been named the hospital’s 2007 Chief of
Staff. The announcement was made by Rick Merrill, C.E.O. and President
of Driscoll. As Chief of Staff, Dr. Bielefeld will serve as an official
member of the Governing Board, Chair of the Medical Executive Committee,
and conduct general meetings of the medical staff. He will also be responsible
for the enforcement of the medical staff bylaws, rules, and regulations.
Dr. Bielefeld has been in private
practice in Corpus Christi and offering cardiothoracic surgeries at
Driscoll since 1998. Prior to joining Driscoll, Dr. Bielefeld was an Instructor
of Surgery for the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery at Children’s
Hospital of Denver and University of Colorado Health Science Center, as
well as an the first Director of the Critical Care Unit at the Children’s
Hospital of Denver. Currently, he is an Assistant Professor for Texas
A & M University System Health Science’s Department of Pediatrics.
While at Driscoll, Dr. Bielefeld has held the position of Assistant Chief
of Surgery and Chief of Surgery, and he currently sits on numerous committees
including Pediatric Intensive Care Unit Committee, ECMO Committee, Surgical
Committee, Code Management Review Committee, Credentialing Committee,
and Operating Room Committee.
A graduate of Medical College of Wisconsin, Dr. Bielefeld completed both
his internship and general surgery residency at the Medical College of
Wisconsin. He also spent four months of his general surgery residency
at Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital in Exeter, England. He completed his
cardiothoracic surgery residency at Medical College of Wisconsin and fellowship
of pediatric cardiothoracic surgery at the Children’s Hospital of
Denver. In addition, Dr. Bielefeld completed two years of research in
cardiothoracic surgery at Columbia University’s College of Physicians
and Surgeons in New York City.
Dr. Bielefeld is board certified by the American Board of Surgery and
American Board of Thoracic Surgery. He is also a Diplomat of the National
Board of Medical Examiners and was featured with
J. Mark Morales, M.D. on Discovery Channel’s “Super Surgeries”
series in 2001.
