Check Presentation & Children’s Car Seat Check (Corpus Christi, TX) Unintentional and preventable injuries are the leading causes of death for children under the age of 14. In addition, many parents are unaware that their child’s car seat is not properly installed, or realize the life and death choice of fastening a seatbelt or wearing a bike helmet. Kohl’s has partnered with hospitals across the country to help change those statistics. Kohl’s recognizes that hospitals care for more than just the critically ill child. They are advocates to protect children, educate the public and pediatricians and create new therapies for childhood illnesses. By 2007, Kohl’s will have raised more than $72 million to help support their mission of keeping kids safe and healthy! Through a partnership with the Kohl’s Department Stores, Driscoll Children’s Hospital’s and its Injury Prevention Department will inspect car seats for all that visit Kohl’s on Friday, September 28, 2007. A check totaling $43,988 will be presented by Kohl’s at 10:30 a.m. followed by carseat checks starting at 11:00am “Our goal is prevention. There are so many things we can’t protect our children from but unintentional injuries are preventable,” said Karen Beard, Injury Prevention Specialist at Driscoll. “Kohl’s introduced the “Kohl’s Cares for Kidsâ” program to promote children’s health and educational opportunities, and is committed to playing an active role in the communities we serve,” said Julie Gardner, senior vice president of marketing for Kohl’s Department Stores. “We’re proud of the partnerships we’ve created with children’s hospitals across the country, and are excited to join Driscoll Children’s Hospital in this endeavor.” Kohl’s has supported Driscoll Children’s Hospital’s Injury Prevention program since 2003. Their commitment through the “Kohl’s Cares for Kidsâ” program raises funds for children’s health and educational opportunities through the sale of special gift items. Net profits from the sales support children’s health and educational opportunities in the market areas served by the department store. Kohl’s community outreach also includes “Kohl’s Kids Who Careâ”, an annual youth volunteer recognition program, fundraising gift cards for local schools and non-profit youth groups, as well as an associate program to encourage volunteerism.
