WHATABURGER PRESENTS $40,000 TO KICK-OFF ANNUAL FUNDRAISER BENEFITING DRISCOLL CHILDREN’S SPECIALTY CENTER IN MCALLEN

(Corpus Christi, TX) Driscoll Children’s Hospital is excited to announce plans for the 5th Annual Fiesta de los Niños at a Kick-Off Press Conference on Wednesday, March 5, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. at Driscoll Children’s Specialty Center in McAllen, Texas. To kick off the fundraiser, Fiesta de los Niños Committee members and hospital staff will be on-hand to receive a $40,000 check from title sponsor Whataburger. Also in attendance will be special guest and former Driscoll patient, 4-year-old Monica Garcia, who will share what Driscoll means to her and her family. The 5th Annual Fiesta de los Niños will be held on Friday, April 18, 2008 at Sister and Carlos Guerra’s La Muñeca Ranch in Linn, Texas, and will feature country music talent, Roger Creager. After only four years, the annual Fiesta de los Niños fundraiser has quickly become a successful event in the Rio Grande Valley and a major source of funding for Driscoll Children’s Specialty Center in McAllen, raising more than $850,000. To date, funds from Fiesta de los Niños have supported the growth of the center’s subspecialty clinics including cardiology, oncology, neurology, orthopaedics, and more. More than 1,500 patients are seen at the Driscoll Children’s Specialty Center in McAllen on a monthly basis. Sponsorships are available starting at $1,500. Since opening its doors in 1953, Driscoll Children’s Hospital has been offering hope and healing to the children of South Texas for half a century. The facility is a 189-bed pediatric tertiary care center with pediatric board-certified specialists representing 19 medical and nine surgical specialties. Each year, more than 6,000 children are admitted for inpatient care, 5,000 for day surgery, and 50,000 for outpatient primary and specialty care, as well as 40,000 for emergency care, as the first South Texas hospital with emergency services exclusively for children. Additionally, Driscoll maintains a state-of-the-art ground/air transport team, 20-bed pediatric intensive care unit, 40-bed neonatal intensive care unit, and specialized medical outreach.
