TEENAGERS BATTLING CANCER LEAVE HOSPITAL, WORRIES BEHIND TO TOUR ATLANTA, GEORGIA THANKS TO NATIONAL ORGANIZATION Driscoll Children’s Hospital patients return (Corpus Christi, TX) Five teens and a nurse from Driscoll Children’s Hospital’s Hematology and Oncology clinic attended the 7th Annual Sunshine Kids Atlanta Getaway, and will be returning on March 27, 2008 to Corpus Christi International Airport at 3:26 p.m. While in Atlanta, the teens are kept busy all day with activities such as a tour of CNN world headquarters, a tour of Coca Cola, an Atlanta Hawks game, and a day at Six Flags Over Georgia, among other things. The trip, funded by the Sunshine Kids Foundation, allowed the teens to forget about the hospital and procedures and gave them a chance to let loose and have fun. “Going on a Sunshine Kids trip is such an amazing opportunity for children who have or have had cancer. They get to have fun with other kids who have been through some of the same treatments that they have been through. It is a privilege to be invited on a Sunshine Kids trip, especially since they only take representation from about seven hospitals each time. This will be our second time to be invited. We are so grateful for this chance,” says Amber Lewis, a nurse at Driscoll Children’s Hospital’s Hematology and Oncology Clinic. Oncology patients between the ages of 11 – 17 attended the week-long adventure. The Sunshine Kids Foundation is a non-profit organization that is committed to providing quality group activities and emotional support to kids who are receiving cancer treatment in hospitals across America.
