Driscoll Children's Hospital Auditorium (Corpus Christi, TX) Happy 50th Birthday to the one and only Credit Union within a Medical facility in South Texas who caters to their employees on a daily basis. Chartered in early 1954, Nettie Ruth Hoskins started the Credit Union on advisement from Dr. Furman. The Credit Union started off with 100 employees of whom owed money to other banks. In an interest to look out for their own employees, Driscoll Children's Hospital, established the Driscoll Foundation Credit Union in hopes of making sure their employees were protected. In order to help out their own, Driscoll encouraged everyone to borrow what they needed to pay off their loans. As word spread of Driscoll’s move, banks were asking employees to pay off their loans with full interest. Ms. Hoskins and trustees of the Driscoll Foundation Credit Union would have none of that and went to each bank and made them accept what was owed. By the end of the first year, no one owed the loan companies. 50 years later, Ms. Hoskins is celebrating the growth and partnership the Driscoll Foundation Credit Union continues to show their employees. Now, 90% of the 1400 employees who make up Driscoll Children's Hospital all participate in the benefits and savings. In fact, nearly $200,000 is generated back into savings from employees every month. The Driscoll Foundation Credit Union is inviting you to attend their
50th Anniversary this evening, Tuesday, April
06, 2004 at the hospital’s auditorium. Ms. Hoskins will also participate
in the festivities and looks forward to telling her story which continues
to live on 50 years later.
