PATRICIA L. RAMSAY, M.D., Ph.D., F.A.A.P.
JOINS DRISCOLL CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL

(Corpus Christi, TX) Driscoll Children's Hospital is pleased to announce Patricia L. Ramsay, M.D. Ph.D., F.A.A.P., has joined the medical staff as a neonatologist. The announcement was made by Rick Merrill, CEO and President of Driscoll Children's Hospital. As a neonatologist in Driscoll’s 40-bed Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), Dr. Ramsay will be offering her expertise in the diagnosis, treatment, and development of plans of care for premature newborns or children who are less than 28 days in age, the smallest, most vulnerable, and fragile of all patients. In addition, Dr. Ramsay will be the Associate Medical Director of the NICU and Assistant Director of Medical Education responsible for overseeing medical resident doctors during their NICU rotations, as well as developing a continuing education program for nursing.

Recently, Driscoll took advantage of another opportunity to provide the best possible care for the children of South Texas - in-house NICU coverage, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. With the new coverage, a board-certified neonatologist is in the hospital, ready to respond, around-the-clock. The hospital modeled this service after its already-successful 24/7 in-house Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) coverage implemented in 2002. Driscoll follows a nationwide trend of other children’s hospitals offering 24/7 in-house coverage in their NICUs as well.

Dr. Ramsay graduated from the Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, and completed a fellowship in neonatal-perinatal medicine, pediatric residency, and intern in pediatrics, all at Baylor as well. Prior to joining Driscoll, she was a neonatologist, assistant professor, and associate director of the perinatal-neonatal fellowship program, all at Baylor.

“Dr. Ramsay’s expertise in the field of neonatology combined with the NICU’s 24/7 in-house coverage will benefit the sickest babies and their families,” says Merrill. “This new addition will allow us to further our mission of offering hope and healing and provide the best possible care for the children of South Texas.”

Dr. Ramsay is board certified by the American Board of Pediatrics. She is also a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics, American Thoracic Society, and serves as a member of the Scientific Counsel of the Southern Society of Pediatric Research.
