Advisory Council
Presents…. Spring 2004 Round-up!!!
Friday, January 23, 2004 from 6 p.m. - 8 p.m.
Driscoll Auditorium ? 3533 S. Alameda St. Corpus Christi, TX
Pizza will be provided - R.S.V.P. required
(Corpus Christi, TX) This is your chance to
make a difference in a young patients life and learn more about the great
things happening at Driscoll Children’s Hospital. Driscoll is seeking
caring people of all ages to join the hospital’s Auxiliary. The
teen volunteer leaders will be hosting a Volunteer Spring Round-up for
those interested in exploring volunteer opportunities throughout the hospital.
Free and open to the public, the event will take place on Friday, January
23, 2004 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. in Driscoll’s auditorium.
Round-up all interested friends as the Volunteen Advisory Council showcases
the movie “Finding Nemo” with pizza, popcorn and fun!!!!!!!!!!
There will also be a chance to win some door prizes. The best part, you
can hear and see how being a volunteer has the changed the lives of so
many of our great people who share their time at Driscoll.
Since 1952, Driscoll’s Auxiliary has contributed thousands of hours
playing a vital role in virtually every department at the hospital. Our
volunteers gain knowledge in many healthcare fields and provide valuable
services to patients, their families, and the staff. Time commitments,
areas of service, and responsibilities vary. Bilingual volunteers are
also highly encouraged.
Opportunities include:
- Gift Shop – selling, merchandising,
stocking shelves, and creating balloon bouquets
- Child Life Playroom – work directly with hospital patients in
well-equipped playrooms making a child’s stay as comfortable as
possible
- Room Service – deliver special items (videos, meals, etc.) to
patients
- Toy Distribution – play Santa year-round by delivering free,
donated toys to new patients
- Cottage Shop – get actively involved in serving for this free-standing
resale shop
- Surgical Waiting – provide links of communication between patient
families and staff
- Tours – help escort visiting community groups including clowns,
athletes, or even Santa
- Information Desk – offer general hospital information, directions,
or hospital policies.
- Oncology Clinic – work directly with patients, keeping their
minds occupied by reading books, coloring, and playing board games while
they endure therapy and procedures
- Ronald McDonald House – work with families in the 25-room free
hotel-like accommodations for families who live out of commuting distance
whose children are in treatment at Driscoll

Since opening its doors in 1953, Driscoll Children’s Hospital
has been offering hope and healing to the children of South Texas for
half a century. The facility is a 200-bed pediatric tertiary care center
with pediatric board-certified specialists representing 19 medical and
nine surgical specialties. Each year, more than 6,000 children are admitted
for inpatient care, 5,000 for day surgery, and 50,000 for outpatient primary
and specialty care, as well as 40,000 for emergency care, as the first
South Texas hospital with emergency services exclusively for children.
Additionally, Driscoll maintains a state-of-the-art ground/air transport
team, 20-bed pediatric intensive care unit, 40-bed neonatal intensive
care unit, and specialized medical outreach.
