Prerequisite(s): 4th Year Status
Goals-The faculty will strive to:
- Provide an environment conducive to learning
- Offer a logical approach to the most common pediatric infectious disease problems.
- Provide guidance for the student to find appropriate literature pertaining to the patients followed by the service.
Objectives-At the end of the rotation, the student will be able to:
- Differentiate infectious vs. non-infectious cases of fever
- Appropriately select antibiotics in children.
- Recognize the problem of emerging antibiotic resistance.
- Obtain all the information necessary to evaluate a febrile child.
- Efficiently utilize the microbiology and virology laboratories.
Learning Activities:
- Morning Report – Monday through Friday; 7am – 8am
- Noon Lecture – Monday through Thursday; 12pm – 1pm
- Grand Rounds– Fridays; 12:30
- Daily Rounds with Infectious Disease Specialist
- Infectious Disease Clinic – 2x/week

Evaluation:
- Clinical evaluation form (100%) to be completed by the physician preceptor with whom the student has worked.
