Prerequisite(s): 4th Year Status
Goals-The faculty will strive to:
- Include the student in all aspects of the practice of Child Neurology
- Demonstrate accurate history and physical assessment skills as pertains to neurological problems in children
- Provide daily brief discussions on a clinical neurology topic
- Make learning resources readily available to the student
- Role model problem solving approaches to neurologic complaints in children
Objectives-At the end of the rotation, the student will be able to:
- Obtain an accurate and complete developmental and neurologic history
- Perform complete neurologic exam in infants, children, adolescents
- Understand appropriate evaluation and treatment of childhood epilepsy
- Have familiarity with common neurologic problems in childhood (headaches, developmental delay, school problems, tics)
- Know indications for neurologic testing and limitations – EEG, CT, MRI, NCV, EMG, muscle biopsy, LP
Learning Activities:
- Attendance and participation in daily general child neurology clinics
- Attendance at multidisciplinary clinics – spina bifida, cerebral palsy
- Accompany attendings on inpatient rounds – floors, PICU, NICU; observation of EEG, NCV, EMG
- Attendance at morning report, noon conferences and Grand Rounds provided by the Pediatrics Department
- Independent reading, video viewing, lecture searches of clinical problems encountered during rotation

- Direct observation/monitoring of participation and clinical performance
