Location: Orthopaedics Clinic and Operating Room
Duration: 4 Weeks
Number of Students: One
When Offered: All Year
Rotation Hours: Contingent upon physician’s schedules
Prerequisite(s): 4th Year Status

Goals-The faculty will strive to:

Teach and demonstrate the basic principles of obtaining a good history and how to perform a good physical exam.
Teach the basic and common conditions common in pediatric orthopaedics.

Objectives-At the end of the rotation, the student will be able to:

Take a good history
Do a very good physical exam
Basic knowledge of reviewing x-rays
Basic splinting and casting techniques

Learning Activities:

For consultations, the student will perform initial evaluations on in patient admissions and provide daily follow-up
Daily rounds with the attendings on the inpatient service
Morning Report attendance is mandatory

Learning Resources:

Medical Library on hospital campus and on the Texas A&M College campus
Journals and Books

Evaluation:

Clinical Evaluation Form (100%) to be completed by the physician preceptor with whom the student has worked
