COURSE DESCRIPTIONS:
- NET 101: Introduction
to the Internet. [co-taught
with Systems Educator] 3 hours. An introduction to the Internet,
including navigating & bookmarking websites, saving images from
the web, using e-mail from the web, searching using various search engines,
evaluating websites, & finding medical resources on the Internet.
- MED 101:
Introduction to Medical Research. 1 1/2 hours. An introduction
to searching for journal articles using Medline (through Ovid and Internet
Grateful Med) & Health Source Plus.
- NRS 101:
Introduction to Nursing Research.
1 1/2 hours. An introduction to searching for journal articles using
Cinahl (through Ovid) & Health Source Plus.
- HLT
101: Introduction to Healthcare Research.
1 1/2 hours. An introduction to searching for journal articles
using HealthStar (through Ovid) & Health Source
Plus.
CME-ACCREDITED COURSES:
- Introduction to Scanning.
1 hour. A CME-accredited course for physicians. Course objectives are
to (1) scan an image or document using PaperPort software, (2) manipulate
and edit the scanned image, (3) insert the scanned image into a Power
Point presentation or Word document, (4) be aware of potential copyright
compliance issues relevant to using scanned images or documents in presentations
or publications. Available by individual appointment; call 694-5467.
- Introduction
to the Internet. 1 hour. A CME-accredited course
for physicians. Course objectives are (1) to introduce Internet
search engines & strategies, (2) to share tips for evaluating Internet
sites, (3) to point out various Internet medical resources, and (4)
to describe library databases & services available. Available by
individual appointment; call 694-5467.
- Medical
Research Online. 1 hour. A CME-accredited course
for physicians. Course objectives are (1) to demonstrate searching
for journal articles using Medline (through Ovid & Internet Grateful
Med), Health Source Plus & MD Consult, (2) to introduce versions
of Medline available on & off the hospital network, (3) to describe
library databases & services available. Available by individual
