About Brownsville Specialty Center
Driscoll Children's Hospital Specialty Center is a freestanding, 2-story, 55,000 square-foot pediatric outpatient center which extends the most specialized and complex medical care exclusively for children, servicing children from the Rio Grande Valley including McAllen and neighboring communities.
Driscoll physicians and staff travel from Corpus Christi to the new center daily to treat the more than 11% of Driscoll Children’s Hospital patients who originate from the Rio Grande Valley and come by direct referrals from pediatric specialty services annually. The hospital anticipates volumes of more than 18,000 patients per year.
With the completion of the new center, time spent by families traveling to referral and follow-up visits with specialists (locally instead of traveling to Corpus Christi) has been greatly reduced, ensuring that children’s specialty health care needs are quickly satisfied. Also, families do not have to be away from home or job responsibilities for extended periods of time, only adding to the trauma of having a sick child.
The facility includes four pods, or 12 physicians' exam rooms, along with two procedure rooms to provide pediatric subspecialty services including pediatric specialists in the areas of Endocrinology and Diabetes, Gastroenterology, Hematology and Oncology, Nephrology, Neurology, Orthopedics, Neurosurgery, Plastic and Reconstructive surgery, Psychology and Behavioral Services, Pulmonology, Rehabilitation medicine, Rheumatology, Surgery, and Urology.
