Audience
This program is designed to provide registered nurses, community physicians, pediatricians, nephrologists, and transplant coordinators in the field caring for patients with renal insufficiency and or an organ transplant.
Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, the participant will be able to:
- Examine the different aspects of the transplant process including listing of candidates on the deceased donor list, organ allocation principles, cross matching and tissue typing principles.
- Assess the surgical aspects, complications, critical care needs of the transplant recipient in the immediate post- operative period.
- Analyze the clinical characteristics and classification/grading of allograft rejection.
- Recognize the different classes of immunosuppressive agents and induction therapies used in renal transplantation

This course has been designated by Driscoll Children’s Hospital for one (1) hour of education in medical ethics and/or professional responsibility. Each physician should claim only those hours of credit that he/she actually spent in the educational activity.
Nurses
Driscoll Children’s Hospital is an approved provider of continuing nursing education by the Texas Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.This activity meets Type I criteria for mandatory continuing education requirements toward relicensure as established by the Texas Board of Nursing. Driscoll Children’s Hospital provides 7.7 contact hours for the completion of this activity.
Successful Completion
For successful completion and receipt of contact hours, nursing participants must attend the activity in its entirety and complete the evaluation form.
