Amtrykes presented to 11 DCH Rehabilitation Department patients

Members of the Longview Chapter of National AMBUCS, a nonprofit dedicated to creating mobility and independence for people with disabilities, donated therapeutic bicycles to 11 Driscoll Children’s Hospital patients on Nov. 18.

The vehicles, known as Amtrykes, are tricycles and bicycles adapted to children with a wide variety of disabilities so they have the opportunity to experience the mobility and independence all children experience when riding a bike.

AMBUCS members worked with therapists at Driscoll Children’s Hospital Rehabilitation Services to ensure each child got a bike that perfectly fit them and their individual needs.

“Driscoll Children’s Hospital Rehabilitation Department is grateful to the Longview AMBUCS Chapter as this gift will help each child continue their therapeutic interventions in a fun and engaging way when at home and with family by doing what kids do – riding a bike,” said Susan T. Fields, Director of Rehabilitation Services at Driscoll Children’s Hospital.
