Driscoll cardiac patients head off to camp

ROCKPORT – Thirty cardiac patients from Driscoll Children’s Hospital will be attending the 11th annual Camp Hearty at Camp Aranzazu in Rockport on July 23-26.

The children will participate in activities such as kayaking, swimming, nature hikes, fishing, archery, a ropes course and more. Medical and nursing staff from Driscoll will be accompanying the campers.

“This camp allows the kids to see that they are not alone in facing serious heart disease and mostly just lets them have a great time,” said Cathy Camp, MSN, RN, cardiology nurse clinician at Driscoll Children’s Hospital.

The camp has grown from seven campers its first year to 30. “We are excited about it,” said Camp. “To have 30 patients attending camp is a big deal, and such a fantastic learning experience for our patients.”
