Internet Resources

What’s the difference?

Subject directories are selective and usually well-organized. Search engines are larger and more comprehensive. Metasearch engines return a small percentage of results found in multiple search engines.

For an in-depth introduction to searching on the Internet, see UC Berkeley’s Finding Information on the Internet: A Tutorial.

Hint: To search for a phrase in most search engines, type phrase in “quotation marks.”
