Thanks to the generosity of so many individuals, organizations, foundations and corporations, Driscoll Children’s Hospital reached and exceeded the $15 million challenge goal to receive the $1 million gift from the J.E. and L.E. Mabee Foundation from Tulsa, Oklahoma.

“We are most appreciative of Driscoll’s mission to provide hope and healing to the children in South Texas. We congratulate the community for its generous support of Driscoll, the futuresbright campaign and meeting our challenge. The Mabee Foundation is proud to provide this $1 million to help support Driscoll’s vital work,” said Ray Tullius, Vice Chairman, The J.E. and L.E. Mabee Foundation.

“It is an extraordinary opportunity to bring a significant philanthropic gift from outside our community to assist in our mission to care for the children of South Texas,” said Mary D. Clark, Co-Chair of the futuresbright Campaign Steering Committee. “We could not be more grateful to our community for the generous outpouring of support. A heartfelt thank you goes to everyone who has given above and beyond to assist in reaching our goal.”

All proceeds from the futuresbright campaign will go toward assisting with the historic building project, transforming Driscoll’s ability to provide even better care for more kids for years to come. When completed, the new North Pavilion will house a beautiful child-friendly Outpatient Surgery Center, a new larger modernized Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), and assist with renovations to Surgical Services with the addition of two new Operating Room suites.

Members of the futuresbright Campaign Steering Committee include Chairs Mary D. Clark, Tom Dobson and Sam L. Susser; Mike Carrell, Chair, Leadership Gift Division; Bill Sterett, Chair, Family Division; Edgar Cortes, MD, Chair, Physician Giving; Jake Jacobi, Chair, Auxiliary Giving; Wes Hoskins, Chair, Foundation and Corporation Giving; Alex Kirkland, Chair, Major Gifts Division; and Lenora Keas, Chair, Community Division.

“The commitment and generosity shown by the entire Campaign Steering Committee and the army of committee volunteers were a source of inspiration,” said Tom Dobson, CEO of Whataburger and Committee Co-Chair. “The overwhelming generosity of the Driscoll family of employees, physicians, auxiliary members, board members and every donor made such a positive difference in our success.”
