Driscoll to observe #ChildrensHospitalsWeek

CORPUS CHRISTI – To shine a light on the importance of children’s hospitals and how donations help kids get the best care when they need it, Driscoll Children’s Hospital will participate in the third annual #ChildrensHospitalsWeek, scheduled March 18-24. All of the money donated locally directly benefits Driscoll Children’s Hospital.

Driscoll Children’s Hospital is one of 170 members of Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals (CMN Hospitals) across North America participating in the weeklong initiative. Driscoll has been a member hospital for more than 30 years.

“For the past 65 years, Driscoll Children’s Hospital has provided excellent medical care to children in South Texas, and we’ve never refused a child because of inability to pay. All donations made to Driscoll stay here in South Texas to help purchase the most up-to-date medical equipment and provide for our various specialty clinics and after-hour clinics. We are grateful for the community’s unwavering support,” said Richard Harris, Children’s Miracle Network Manager for Driscoll Children’s Hospital.

The following activities encourage support for children’s hospitals March 18-24. Donations can be made at http://driscollchildrens.org/donate or by calling 1-800-815-1504.

  • Participate in the “My Miracle Child” bandage campaign on social media: Sport a bandage and write on it the first name only of a child who has benefited from Driscoll Children’s Hospital. Take a photo, share it with #ChildrensHospitalsWeek and tag Driscoll Children’s Hospital.
  • Shop at Kendra Scott during Children’s Hospitals Week. Fifty percent of the proceeds from the sales of the Children Charm always go back to support the local Children’s Miracle Network Hospital, and on Monday, March 18, 100 percent of the proceeds of the charm will support the local CMN hospital, Driscoll Children’s Hospital.

  • Stop by a local, participating Dairy Queen on Wednesday, March 20, for a free ice cream cone. In honor of their 35th year of partnership with Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, Dairy Queen locations across the nation, including the Coastal Bend and Rio Grande Valley, will celebrate Children’s Hospitals Week and the first day of spring with their annual Free Cone Day on March 20. Customers will receive a free small soft serve cone just for coming. Donations can be made at the Dairy Queen locations.

  • Tune in to a Facebook Live-athon on Wednesday, March 20, at 7 p.m. (CST): The exciting, live event will feature appearances by various celebrities and the Champions, 10 kids who represent the 10 million kids treated annually at Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals throughout the U.S. and Canada. Catch the action at https://www.facebook.com/cmnhospitals.

“With the third annual #ChildrensHospitalsWeek in 2019, we’re taking the opportunity to honor not only our Champions and partners, but also the hundreds of children’s hospitals across the U.S. and Canada who impact the lives of millions of children annually,” said John Lauck, President and CEO of Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. “We’re reminded daily of the fact that contributions of all sizes add up to provide critical funding for pediatric medical equipment, services, research and charitable care, and that community donations are vital for local kids in need.”
