H-E-B donates $12,000 for Amtrykes at Driscoll

Driscoll Children’s Hospital Rehabilitation Services patient Brice Pittman appreciates the added mobility she has, thanks to the Amtryke she is riding.

CORPUS CHRISTI – The H-E-B Tournament of Champions Charitable Trust has donated $12,000 to Driscoll Children’s Hospital to purchase Amtrykes for its Rehabilitation Services Department.

Amtryke bikes are tricycles adapted for the needs of children who otherwise would not be able to ride a bicycle. The Amtrykes are adapted to meet any conceivable need to promote independence for the child. Each child who receives a bike is assessed by a physical therapist, measurements are taken and adaptions needed to maximize independence are determined.

“Here in our Rehabilitation Services Department we have been incredibly fortunate to be able to provide some of our families with the gift of an adapted bicycle for their child. There is nothing more magical than to watch a child, who otherwise would be excluded from the joy of riding a bike, be able to ride a bicycle. This is one of those life events that we can take for granted – and it is a joy to be able to support our families in this way,” said Susan T. Fields, Director of Rehabilitation Services at Driscoll Children’s Hospital.

H-E-B Tournament of Champions Charitable Trust, funded by H-E-B vendors and partners, is dedicated to supporting charitable projects and programs focusing on education, families, military and youth throughout Texas.

“Driscoll Children’s Hospital  is deeply honored that the H-E-B Tournament of Champions Charitable Trust has chosen to bring immeasurable hope and joy to these precious children, who now get to enjoy one of the greatest pleasures of being a child,” said Martha Avery, Vice President, Development, Driscoll Children’s Hospital.
