Location: Orthopaedics Clinic and Operating Room

Rotation Hours: Contingent upon physician's schedules
Prerequisite(s): 4th Year Status

Goals-The faculty will strive to

:
  • Teach and demonstrate the basic principles of obtaining a good history and how to perform a good physical exam.
  • Teach the basic and common conditions common in pediatric orthopaedics.

Objectives-At the end of the rotation, the student will be able to

:
  • Take a good history
  • Do a very good physical exam
  • Basic knowledge of reviewing x-rays
  • Basic splinting and casting techniques

Learning Activities

:
  • For consultations, the student will perform initial evaluations on in patient admissions and provide daily follow-up
  • Daily rounds with the attendings on the inpatient service
  • Morning Report attendance is mandatory

Learning Resources

:
  • Medical Library on hospital campus and on the Texas A&M College campus
  • Journals and Books

Evaluation

:
  • Clinical Evaluation Form (100%) to be completed by the physician preceptor with whom the student has worked
