A physician-to-physician referral is necessary to admit a pediatric patient to Driscoll Children's Hospital. For more information on referrals, please call the appropriate specialty clinic or call admitting services.

Admitting Department responsibilities include:


  • Preadmission registration
  • Advanced admission booking
  • Financial interviewing
  • Patient admission
  • Coordination of Bed assignment with Nursing House Supervisor
  • Arrangements for patient escorting
  • Processing of insurance forms
  • Referral of private pay families to State Programs, such as Medicaid, Chronically Ill and Disabled Children, or SSI
  • Insurance pre-certification
  • Insurance verification, coding and billing
  • Establish payment plans
  • Communication to patient's referring family physician
