ARANSAS PASS – The Chemo Kids Fish-Off has become a tradition that patients look forward to every summer. The annual fishing excursion at Hampton’s Landing in Aransas Pass allows children with cancer to take their minds off chemotherapy for a day and concentrate on catching fish with their favorite Driscoll staff members.
About 40 children, ages 5 – 18, ventured out into the water in boats driven by local fishing guides in hopes of catching the most fish June 9. When the junior anglers returned to dry land, volunteers weighed the fish and helped patients make a print of the catch of the day. Patients also were treated to lunch and each was recognized at an awards ceremony.
