Global Institute For Hispanic Health

Investigators from across The Texas A&M University System and Driscoll Children’s Hospital or Driscoll Health Plan are encouraged to apply for the newly launched Clinical Research Seed Grant program, sponsored by the Global Institute for Hispanic Health (GIHH). The GIHH is a partnership between Texas A&M University Health Science Center and Driscoll Children’s Hospital, led by Medical Director Jaime Fergie, MD, infectious diseases specialist at Driscoll Children’s Hospital.

Proposals should focus on the geographic region of South Texas, the health needs of the Hispanic population and the elimination of health care disparities in the Hispanic community. The goal of the program is to support pilot research projects that will lead to future extramural funding.

Grant awards are based upon scientific merit and the project’s relevance to GIHH program goals of clinical, translational and health services research projects in priority areas of diabetes and obesity, asthma, infectious diseases, neurological disorders, cancer and the opioid epidemic. Proposals that leverage the Healthy South Texas platform or Driscoll Health Plan data are encouraged.

All investigative teams should include at least one member from Driscoll Children’s Hospital or the Driscoll Health Plan and at least one member from the Texas A&M University Health Science Center. Other Texas A&M University System members are also encouraged to apply in collaboration with Driscoll and Health Science Center researchers.

Independent investigators at all faculty ranks and tracks are encouraged to apply. The deadline is March 1. Each grant of up to $25,000 maximum (no overhead allowed) will be awarded in July 2018.
