Our leadership team reflects the various specialties, backgrounds and cultures that make the Driscoll Children’s Hospital Residency Program unique.

Doctor-Huckabee-MD-FAAP
Mary Huckabee
MD, FAAP
Director Medical Education

Dr. Huckabee received her medical degree from the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston. She completed her residency at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences at Arkansas Children’s Hospital. She is board-certified in Pediatric Hospital Medicine and is Medical Director for PHM at Driscoll.

Dr. Huckabee has a passion for the education of both residents and medical students. She has significant experience in curriculum development, simulation training, and residents as teacher programs. Outside of work, she is a board member for a local cat rescue and enjoys cooking/baking, birdwatching and spending time with her family.

Audrey Parmar
MD, FAAP
Associate Program Director

Dr. Parmar received her medical degree from Ross University School of Medicine. She completed her Pediatric Residency and Chief Residency at Driscoll Children's Hospital. She is a general Pediatrician at ABC Pediatrics. She is passionate about training future pediatricians and has a special interest in resident wellness and advocacy.

She enjoys spending time with her family, baking, and outdoor adventures with her children and husband.

Oluwafemi Ojo
MD, FAAP
Associate Program Director

Dr. Ojo obtained his medical degree from Obafemi Awolowo University, Nigeria. He also received a master’s degree in public health at the Harvard School of Public Health. He proceeded to complete his pediatric residency training at Driscoll Children’s Hospital in Corpus Christi, Texas after which he served as a chief resident. He is a board-certified pediatrician practicing in The Children’s Clinic in Corpus Christi. He has a great passion for quality improvement and patient safety processes.

His other interests include research and medical education. He loves to spend time with family and friends especially potlucks, watching TV shows, soccer, swimming and visiting amusement parks.

Jon Roberts
MD, FCCP, FAAP
Assistant Program Director

Dr. Roberts attended the Sophie David School of Biomedical Education at the City University of New York, earning his medical degree from New York Medical College. He completed both his pediatric residency (2003) and pediatric pulmonology fellowship (2006) at Winthrop University Hospital in Mineola, New York. He is board-certified in both general pediatrics and pediatric pulmonology and has served as the medical director for pulmonology at Driscoll Children’s Hospital since 2011. He and his team created and developed the first accredited Cystic Fibrosis Care Center in South Texas in 2015. Dr. Roberts became the first chairperson of Driscoll’s Core Competency Committee in 2013. He has also participated in a special American Board of Pediatrics Maintenance of Certification Assessment for Pediatrics (MOCA-Peds) committee on developing new grading criteria for the specialty exam. He has been passionate in his role educating pediatric residents, as well as medical, advanced practice provider, nursing, and respiratory therapy students.

Outside of work, Dr. Roberts enjoys running, biking, traveling the globe, and spending time with his beautiful family.

Doctor-Garcia-MD
Matthew Garcia
MD

Dr. Garcia received his medical degree from The University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio. He completed his residency at Driscoll Children's Hospital in Corpus Christi and served as a Chief Resident. He is currently a General Pediatrician at Amistad Health. He is passionate about primary care and medical education.

Away from the clinic and hospital, he enjoys spending time with his wife, playing video games, watching and discussing movies and TV, and traveling.

Frederick McCurdy
MD, PHD, MBA, FAAP, FACPE
Education Specialist

Dr. McCurdy was one of the first MD/PhD graduates from the University of Nebraska. He completed his pediatric training at Wilford Hall USAF Medical Center in San Antonio and his Pediatric Nephrology Fellowship at the University of Minnesota. He is a retired USAF Colonel and has had a lengthy career (40+ years) in academic medicine rising to the academic rank of Professor with Tenure and has occupied academic positions ranging from Clerkship Director to Department Chair of Pediatrics and Associate Dean for Faculty Development.

He has two passions: children with medical complexity and medical education. He serves these two passions by being the STAR Kids Medical Director for the Driscoll Health Plan while also being an active member of the Medical Education Team at Driscoll Children’s Hospital attending morning reports as well as conducting teaching sessions for the medical students, residents, and the faculty.

In his spare time, he enjoys walking the local beaches with his wife and, of course, spending time with grandkids and great-grandkids.
