PGY1 Pharmacy Residency

Core Rotations:

Required core clinical learning experiences are four to six weeks and include the following:

1. Orientation

2. General Pediatrics

3. Pediatric Intensive Care

4. Neonatal Intensive Care

5. Hematology/Oncology

6. Pulmonology / CF Clinic

7. Ambulatory/Specialty Pharmacy

8. An additional acute care rotation

Residents must choose one of the following non-direct patient care learning experiences:

1. Medication Safety

2. Informatics

3. Pharmacy Administration

Elective Rotations

Completion of the Orientation program and required core rotations will allow the resident to choose three months of elective rotations as well as one non-direct patient care rotation. The resident may choose to do more than one rotation in a given practice area; however, the rotation must provide a different learning experience or patient population. The resident is encouraged to select elective rotations to provide a breadth of experience; therefore, a maximum of three rotations will be allowed within a specific patient population and not more than two non-direct patient care rotations.

4. Renal/Renal Transplant

5. Investigational Drugs

6. Emergency Medicine

7. Infectious Diseases

8. Extended experiences in any of the core clinical or non-direct patient care rotations

Pharmacy Practice Experience

Pharmacy practice experience begins in July and is completed in June. One mid-day shift from 4:30-8:30 pm per week/3 weeks a month and two 8 hour shifts one weekend a month. Weekend pharmacy practice experience requirements

do not entitle the resident to any additional time off during the week. In addition, each resident will be required to staff one of the following holidays: Thanksgiving, Christmas Day, or New Year’s Day. Residents will be off all major holidays unless he/she chooses to work.
