Fiesta de los Niños’ proceeds will go toward supporting Driscoll Heart Program

CORPUS CHRISTI – Proceeds from Friday’s annual fundraiser Fiesta de los Niños will go toward improvements at the Heart Program at Driscoll Children’s Hospital.

Funds raised will support the purchase of a new pediatric heart-lung machine, diagnostic fetal imaging equipment and upgrades to electrophysiology and cardiac catheterization equipment.

Driscoll’s Heart Program has been providing quality, compassionate care to heart patients throughout South Texas since 1962. The team of pediatric specialists, led by Medical Director Stephen Langley, MD, is comprised of 13 cardiologists, including two full-time cardiologists in McAllen, and one in Laredo (growing to three full-time this year). With cardiology clinics in Corpus Christi, Victoria, McAllen, Laredo and Rio Grande City, families can see a pediatric cardiologist closer to home.

As the number of children needing help at Driscoll Children’s Hospital continues to increase, so does the need to stay up to date on medical advances and technologies.

“Technology never stands still. It needs to be updated,” said Mary Dale Peterson, MD, MSHCA, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Driscoll Health System.

“Driscoll Children’s Hospital has a long history of having a fabulous Congenital Heart Program. Having this up-to-date technology purchased with the Fiesta funds will enhance our wonderful Heart Program and elevate it to the world-class program that it can and will be,” she said.

“We are thrilled that this year’s Fiesta de los Ninos will support the purchase of state-of-the-art technology that extends the high quality of care given to each patient that comes to Driscoll Children’s Hospital. This truly keeps Driscoll on the leading edge in pediatric healthcare,” said Martha Avery, Vice President of Development at Driscoll Children’s Hospital.

The 28th annual Fiesta de los Niños, Driscoll’s largest fundraiser of the year, will be held Friday, Jan. 24, 6:30-11:30 p.m., American Bank Center Exhibit Hall.

Led by longtime title sponsor Flint Hills Resources, Fiesta de los Niños is Driscoll’s largest annual fundraising event. Each year, 100 percent of the funds raised from the event directly benefit the hospital. In 2019, with more than 1,500 people in attendance, Fiesta grossed more than $850,000.
