Interpretation Services

Qualified medical interpreters are available on-site Monday - Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

At Driscoll, we know adequate communication is an important part of quality medical care. Our Interpretation and Translation Services Department is committed to facilitating communication between LEP (Limited English Proficiency) or hearing impaired patients and families and their healthcare team. We acknowledge more than 40 percent of our patients and family’s sole primary language is Spanish, and it is the patient and family’s right to receive complete information in a language they understand about diagnosis, tests, procedures, treatment options, possible risks, outcomes and requirements following discharge.

For languages other than Spanish, after hours and holidays, hospital staff is instructed to contact the Language Line, an over-the-phone interpreting agency, or video-conference an off-site remote interpreter.

Who are the staff interpreters?

Driscoll has several trained staff interpreters from diverse backgrounds who are fluent in Spanish and familiar with medical terminology in both Spanish and English. Each individual is an educated and experienced professional who has been carefully selected to provide quality interpretation services.

American Sign Language (ASL)

Driscoll also recognizes the need for sign language and therefore contracts with the Deaf Center in Corpus Christi. ASL interpreters are available 24 hours a day (advance notice of 24 hours is recommended). Please request someone from your healthcare team to assist you with any ASL service needs.
