Volunteering

Distributing toys, reading books, cuddling babies, directing guests, playing in the playroom and assisting in The Carousel Gift Shop, The Cookie Connection or The Cottage Shop are a few ways you can help enrich the lives of our patients and families.

Volunteers are members of the Auxiliary to Driscoll Children's Hospital and give their time and hearts to the children of South Texas. Through fundraising efforts, the Auxiliary financially supports Driscoll Children’s Hospital, having contributed over four million dollars since its inception in 1952. Some gifts to Driscoll include $250,000 toward the Pavilion, $100,000 for the purchase of cardiology equipment in Driscoll’s Heart Center, $45,000 toward the Driscoll Pediatric Sleep Center and $50,000 toward Driscoll Children’s Hospital Rio Grande Valley.

We ask that you commit to a minimum of two to four hours per week, 100 hours total, for a six-month period.

Upon completing an interview and a clear background check, you will be required to attend an orientation, submit to a TB test (requiring a blood draw), a flu vaccination and an immunity test at no cost to you. COVID-19 immunization requirements are in place which include either receiving the COVID-19 vaccination or complying with twice weekly testing, surveys and other safety protocols.

As a part of Auxiliary membership, volunteers pay $5 per year. Volunteers are also required to complete annual training as applicable to their volunteer position.
