Continuing Medical Education

Our Mission

Purpose: The purpose of the Driscoll Health System’s Continuing Medical Education (CME) program is to promote continuous improvement in patient care by providing educational activities for physicians involved in the care of pediatric patients and pregnant women.

Content Areas: The activities will educate physicians on the epidemiology, prevention, diagnosis, and management of the physical and psychosocial problems of pediatric patients. This will include a broad range of recent advances, current concerns, common problems, ethical issues, and address identified quality issues from the entire spectrum of pediatric healthcare and care of pregnant women.

Target Audience: The primary target audience will be the physician and surgeon staff of Driscoll Children’s Hospital, referring physicians, nurse practitioners, physician’s assistants , obstetrics (in support of Driscoll Health Plan) engaged in child health care in South Texas.

Types of Activities: The program will consist of regularly scheduled series lectures and courses scheduled as needed, and targeted educational offerings utilizing video, internet, enduring materials, information system computer technology where need exists. Cisco WebEx online broadcasting services is a tool that allows attendees view CME activities from their electronic devices.

Expected Results of the Program: Activities are expected to enhance physician’s competence and performance. For selected activities, physicians will be asked on the electronic evaluation form to assess what of any elements of the information provided will be incorporated into future practice. Selected activities are coordinated with Hospital and Driscoll Health Plan quality initiatives for the purpose of contributing to change in patient outcomes and this effort is monitored in conjunction with appropriate quality committees. The CME Committee analyzes the activities conducted through the CME department to access the degree to which the mission statement has been met.
