Critical Care Transport Services

The Critical Care Transport Team is committed to providing the highest standard of care to your child. By following industry established weather minimums for both ground and air transports, we maintain our commitment to the safety of our children. All air transports take place with instrument flying, a Terrain Awareness and Warning System, and Night Vision Goggles, as needed. All of our ambulance drivers re-certify with the Emergency Vehicle Operators Course annually.

Our team includes:

  • Registered nurses
  • Registered respiratory therapists
  • Paramedics

Many members of the team are trained at instructor levels in advanced neonatal resuscitation, pediatric advanced life support, advanced cardiac life support and flight physiology and dual-licensed EMTs. The Transport Team’s configurations are customized to fit the appropriate level of treatment for every patient.

During the transport process, our team members are in constant contact with Driscoll Children’s Hospital medical control physicians via telephone and two-way radio communications. Advanced communication equipment and availability of the transport physicians allow our team to provide critical, lifesaving care throughout the entire transport process.

Driscoll’s commitment to the children of South Texas, no matter the distance, is reflected in our 24/7-presence at our Valley Station in McAllen. A full team remains on standby at the McAllen base to minimize waiting time for a child to receive needed care.
